Jeremy and I are planning a 4-day hike on the AT next weekend. We'd like to do the start of the trail to just over Blood Mountain, which will make for 3 long, 10-mile-plus days, and then a last day of 4 miles, mostly because we don't have a tent and Jeremy's friend with a truck will be out of town, so we will have to start at Amicalola Falls and hike up to the start at Springer Mountain. Saturday night, we went shopping for the nonperishable foods that we will carry. This trip, we're going to eat some hot foods, thanks to my little Esbit stove. Once I got some extra fuel for it today, we had the Great Tea Kettle vs. Coffee Percolator Water-Heating Challenge. It was a tie, since we need the coffee pot for a little cooking, and we also have instant soup the just needs water from the teapot. The real winner will be my pants, since I'm finding it hard to find and carry enough calories without constantly eating.

It should be nice weather after the hurricane blows through so maybe the tent/shelter problem will be moot. Calories AND water!
Even those little tubes of frosting pack some calories.
You guys are truly scientists. I hope the little stove works well for you. Take more tablets than you think you will need.
